Beer and sushi. Great sushi!! Craft beer and hard to find 🍺.
Super disappointed... The rice for my sushi was undercooked. The kids they had serving tables were clueless. Took 10 minutes to get someone to our table to take drink orders - it wasn’t busy otherwise I’d understand. I asked for a hot saki and never got it. I’ll drive the hour to Macomb next time I need a sushi fix.
Every table full when we arrived, but quickly made it to the bar. The manager did a fantastic job at keeping everything moving while training new team members. He deserves a raise...
They have definitely made some interior improvements, however, I feel like the sushi took the cut. Bought two rolls that were 80% rice. The people with me had the same experience as well. The service was still great and would go again.
Very good service and food
It was a great time. Not only was the food delicious, the staff was perfect. We laughed and ate.
This place is wonderful! The food is fresh and quite tasty. The prices are perfect for what we get.
I was skeptical, but the tiger roll was delicious, and so was the salad! Service was great, too. Will go again!
Shokai is the place to go for sushi around Burlington! I have been going there for over a year now for their sushi and their service is great. They have carry out and the prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is small but cozy and quiet. I have nothing negative to say about Shokai Sushi, besides the hours since I often work second shift. They aren't open on Sundays either, but they are worth the wait and time to enjoy their sushi.
Best sushi you can get in Iowa! Excellent experience and amazing staff!
Good food!
I tried to go and make an order tonight a bit before 7 o'clock PM. When I entered, the staff were playing Mario Kart in the main area, and the server told me that the wait was an hour and a half even before she took my order. I declined placing an order due to the fact that some days prior, I was told that they CLOSED at 8:30 PM now, and my order would have been finished at said time. I didn't trust them not to close the store on me before I got my order because when I had called days prior ( as mentioned ) they closed early on a whim at 8 PM. I don't recommend coming here during the pandemic, as they've gone downhill in quality considerably; both in food and staff.
Very busy when we arrived at 12:30. No empty tables inside. It was such a beautiful day, they have outdoor, inclosed seating. My daughter and I sat out there. We had music, nice breeze, great waiter. Didn't have to talk over people, or be all stuffy in such a small place. Great deal also. Purchase 1 sushi roll get the 2nd one free. So we each picked 2 and shared.
A great but small sushi venue. Very cozy, definitely an intimate atmosphere. The sushi was well prepared, and there was quite a bit for the price. The place looks to have been renovated in the last year, and the new decor is excellent, though I would recommend something to block off the drink/back prep/storage area. The server was fantastic, very pleasant, courteous, and timely. The rest of the staff were equally respectful, even though they weren't helping our party. All in all, a great place to get Sushi in Burlington.
First time to try Shokai Sushi tonight, and it was AWESOME!!! Got it to go, and they were super friendly and nice!
I called and hour before they closed mid day, was put on hold for ten minutes(not hearing a single thing but music going on in the background). Called back another 10 minutes later and their phone was still off the hook. Excellent customer service.
Always great food and great staff! They are funny and kind!
Awesome sushi selections
Delicious sushi! Best in town!
Fast service awesome food best sushi I've ever had
Was there on 4/25/2019, and it was an awful experience. They have changed their lay out and closed the front door. Watched the staff make fun of patrons who did not see the small sign, directing them to the side patio door. The waitress I had, was pushey, very unfriendly, and was demanding of a tip. The size of the rolls has been greatly reduced, even from a couple of months ago. I was rushed out, due to a large reservation coming in. Will probably never go here again. Going here was something I used to look forward to, but never again.
The food was good. A little pricey. The problem I had was them allowing me to order two rolls to go and not being able to make one of them. Instead of calling back and asking if I wanted something else they just waited until I got there. I was hoping to just grab my food and go. I would have ordered something else if they would have told me, but instead I had to wait another 15 minutes for more food. Just poor customer service.
Pretty good food. Calling for carry out is super hit or miss. Called five times throughout the dinner shift and got sent to voicemail every time, sometimes prematurely. Great to eat in though.
Had a great time with Quin, thank you for the great service.
Wow. Insane wait staff. Literally talked about spitting in a to go order IN FRONT OF THE PEOPLE WAITING FOR THEIR FOOD? Watched a guy walk out with a single roll and he immediately threw it away in the parking lot across the street and went to the Dairy Queen instead. First and last time ever going here. Who runs this place? Gross.
First, let me say I love the Shokai Sushi in Fairfield. However my first trip to the Shokai Sushi in Burlington will also be my last. The tables are high and the correspondingly high stools are awkward to get onto and off if you are a senior citizen with advanced arthritis. The food menu is a bit limited, and is dwarfed by the much more extensive alcoholic menu. My companion and I each ordered an appetizer and entree. The shrimp in the appetizer were not cooked well and engulfed by cream cheese. The same appetizer in Fairfield is excellent. The crab Rangoon tasted old and were mushy. Neither of us are much of our entrees and had no desire to take leftovers home. The bright spot was our waiter who was pleasantly outgoing and prompt.Takeaway from this? Go to Fairfield for good Japanese food. Service is slow, but it's worth it.
Service is kind of slow. Not too pricey. Excellent food
This place has pretty good food and they do a very good job. The prices were about average. It's a nice atmosphere. The staff was courteous and friendly. They have good food selections and the atmosphere is very inviting. They have good specials. This place has a good location near the casino. It's not a fancy place just good food. This is the type of place that has a full parking lot of cars because the food is good.
Very good sushi! And great service!
Sushi is awesome but the wait to go was dumb. They said an hour wait but it ended up being closer to 1.5hrs. I understand you have in house customers but making to go customers wait is kinda silly.....only reason it was a 3/5
Always a great affordable night out.
OK I'm from Cali (to say the least I love sushi, so I've been to grate places) and I have to say the experience here was as good as can be! The staff was grate! And the food omg! I can't discribe it you need to come and eat here! If you can drink alcohol ask for the warm sake.
Love the food there. Its fresh and delish.
Outside doesn't look like much, however Inside actually looks pretty nice.Ordered Maki. Sushi was way too heavy on the rice and little fish inside. Was disappointing. Seems like the kids in the kitchen need more training on how to make a good sushi roll
I've eaten here 3 times. Each time something different. Each time the food was fresh, delicious and unique. Sat at the bar and it was busy most often.I, unlike the other reviewer, would give the Crab Rangoon a solid "3.5”
In Iowa, in a little patio restaurant - who would expect the sushi I've ever had? And Marisol is delightful, knows her food and drinks. I will be back.
great food and atmosphere! service was quick!
The Cali roll delish! Service awesome!
sushi was excellent also liked the PHO
Food and service was great.
One of the only places in the area to get sushi. The food itself isn't too bad but the restaurant space is a bit awkward. If you go though, be sure the try their wings and yorokobi shrimp as an appetizer!
Was a little nervous when we saw the building, however once you get past the front doors, it's a cute, clean restaurant. The sushi and maki raw rolls were fresh and incredibly delicious. We will absolutely eat here again.
Wow! Our waiter was so friendly! The food was AMAZING! LOVED IT!
Driving home from Madison WI to St. Louis MO and this place popped up as an option for food. I detoured to stop in and have a quick bit to eat and take a break from the road. This sushi restaurant is one of the best I’ve been to! The crab Rangoon is by far the best. I had 2 rolls that were amazing. I have to make this trip again next month and I will be stopping in again for sure!
Tuna Carpaccio was excellent.
This is my absolute favorite sushi place to go to. I'm from the West coast so I'm pretty spoiled on fresh sushi... Kanda ( owner of shokai) has the freshest fish that I have found in the Midwest. He always has excellent deals on rolls and amazing drinks.
Great sushi, and their wings are off the charts!
Good Food! Good Service!
Nice well prepared sushi. A nice drink menu.
